Correct! Sorry, I forgot that Mina had a name change after a few chapters... didn't mean to be tricksy, honest

LUST LOW AT TINDERBOX / SOOTS COCKED

1. Novel and its author
2. This was the (not terribly well known) first novel of a writer who subsequently became hugely successful and the recipient of multiple awards

LAST BUS TO WOODSTOCK / COLIN DEXTER

:thankyou:

Phew! Well that didn't take long! :D I'd never heard about the cameo appearance connection so that really threw me. Thought it must be an American series.

Colin Dexter himself appears (mostly uncredited) in all but 3 of the twenty-something TV films, typically just "walking past while chatting in a street scene" or something of the kind. In some of them, he's seen as a presumed Fellow of "Lonsdale College, Oxford" and in one he's heard saying a particularly florid Latin "Grace" before a college dinner. He became a close friend of John Thaw. ;)

Well done! :)

Cool, I'll have to keep an eye out for him!

This might prove way too complicated, but we’ll give it a go :evil (Letters stay within their respective rows)

RINLV YARN / IDEIYEW ID / VICHIR IRIE / IHIRA HI / HADICIS REI

TEAN YNEALFN / RAOLFMGAS NU OECMVLAI / RZHELO IEPIEAS / OSNEIBN RQ ELOJANARI / ESTU ANWEANI

1) The top row contains five kings of Britain/England, represented by their regnal names and ordinal numbers in Roman numerals (eg ***** * could be HENRY I or V). In the corresponding position on the bottom row is a woman who was married to the king above her.

HIS ELEVEN BEATS / CELLO BLOODY

1. Novel and its author
2. A bestseller
3. There was a movie adaptation, too (a couple of years ago)
4. The novel was highly and widely praised by critics and became a huge bestseller very quickly after publication
5. This was the second of the author's three (so far) books (the first wasn't a novel)
