Ya know, I'm gonna have to start putting years on the master list of the book studies soon :)

So, Fantasy is up to bat. Anyone want to suggest a theme or just jump in and suggest a book?

As always, please second any books you like to make my job easier. I'll have a poll up as soon as I have enough acceptable suggestions (Popular, stand alone book, that is readily available in paperback, that we can all learn from.)

How about well done cliche? There's always talk about how everyone hates the farm boy becomes hero scenario, but it's still written for a reason.

Or, alternately, how about multiple plotline/MC works?

For multiple plotlines/MCs, Tigana pops into my head. We've had it in the poll before, and though it's not the most tangled of books, it's nicely done. So that might be good to put forward again. Yay, nay?

For zero to hero, nothing is coming to mind. Any ideas ELM or others?

One Hundred Years looks interesting. I'm gonna second that myself :)

oh, it has been suggested that i nom nom nominate 'The Once and Future King' by TH White. It is the bestest ever novel about King Arthur. It's a good zero to hero farmboy with a destiny tale.

Um, so, I went to start the poll, only there's only two books (not including Tigana since no one seconded it and it's a repeat nominee). Stop lurking ppl. I see you all viewing these threads. Help out a little or I'm gonna be sadface.

Kushiel's Dart by Jacqueline Carey

The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley

Interview with a Vampire by Anne Rice

Has there been a Neil Gaiman yet? I would go for Anansi Boys.

Zero to hero? Maybe the Book of Three by Lloyd Alexander (YA, though).

Evil genius pre-teen? Artemis Fowl (Eoin Colfer). Also YA, but an entertaining read.

I'd go for Interview with a Vampire also.

I might be persuaded to discuss Gaiman's American Gods.

Way late, but I'd love to do Tigana eventually--I bought it, and I really meant to read it, and I read the prologue and loved it, then didn't have time to read for a while. Then I read chapter 1 eventually, loved it, and had to put it away again for other things.

I really need a good reason to read this book, because I love it!

So...eventually!

If you love it so much, then why don't you marry it?

Sorry. One of my kids said that to me and I've been waiting for someone to open that door so I could step through.

Okay fine! Roll your eyes if you must!

I keep meaning to participate in one of these, but then I forget.

I love Holly Lisle. Her stories are deep and I am often left reflecting after I finish one.

I love Talyn, but it's a tad on the long side. A link to some of her works:

http://hollylisle.com/books.html#novels Just ignore the suspense and paranormal romance stuff. She's also put out a couple of MG/YA books. The first was really good and I need to buy the second.

But then, it's more an idea and a country than something to take to meet the parents ;)
