...maybe they bother because you sent them a query?

Just a guess. ;)

But congrats on landing a great agent! WTG!

Oh, I've been there.

A story I've told before:

I got the only personalized rejection I received in the whole process when my book was on submission.

It was a wam-doozer, too. That agent HATED IT. I've always felt like there was something a bit...malevolent in that rejection, but I'll never know. (I had written her a month or so before telling her that I was going with another agent; maybe there's something there.) Nor do I really care.

I got a rejection after I'd already signed else where. That was the first time my heart didn't sank upon opening my email or mail box. So glad to be off that rollercoaster. Now, on to the ride of my life: trying to nail down the publishers who are seriously considering 2 of my MS, but haven't signed on the dotted line...yet.

Good show, Barb. Rejections that make you smile smugly must be rare. Treasure those. ;)

CONGRATULATIONS, by the way! :D

When you've had a half-liter of 16-year-old Laphroaig, sipped neat, over three or four hours, before a roaring fire of seasoned birch on a -20 F night with the wind howling outside, with two cats sitting on your lap, purring, before you open it.

So I did... three months ago. Now, it seems to me that any agency which can't get the lead out enough to say "No thanks" in less than three months when forty others managed to do so... well, let's just say I'm glad I went elsewhere. :)

3 months isn't unusual. It could take longer.

But congratulations. The best of luck with the agent.

Congratulations on the agent! That's wonderful. And good luck with the next part of the process of getting published.
