Has anybody here ever written a press release? If so what should you include?

Write something the journalist can cut and paste and print as their own article. Time is short and they have space to fill, so if you write the article for them, they will probably print it without giving it any thought.

Be cynical. Work the information into the text or the quotes rather than giving stats at the bottom. Don't get miffed if they thieve your press release, add a line and put their name on it. It shows you've done it well.

Good luck!

I would suggest searching Google for press releases to get a sense of how to structure one.

If you are writing a press release make sure you pin it to some news. Not just the fact that you have a book. What's better is a phoner. Write those. You get booked and have immediate sales. We did that at Penguin.
