It doesn't fit the scramble, but the word 'tenterhooks' is in there:

Crumpet Tenterhooks, confused young woman saddled with a stripper's first name and a vixen's sizzling hot looks, both of which are obstacles to her desire to carry on where Mother Theresa left off. (It's gold, I tells ya! Gold!)

CRUMPET OOSNEK RHASTT

#1 Considered a visionary by some, a fraud by others.
#2 Designed something that excited the public, until everything went bust.
#3 A movie based on his life, with his name as its title, was made in the '80s.
#4 The movie's title is just his last name.

(Quietly piling up stones, just in case...)

Sheesh! Well, here's another clue.

I fear that I misled you about the title of the film. I thought it was just his last name. It's actually his last name, followed by a colon, followed by five more words.

Arrrgh! THAT'S it! PRESTON THOMAS TUCKER, about whom Tucker: The Man and His Dream was made.

Great puzzle, Nym!

Wikipedia's comment on aforementioned film:

The film received critical praise, but was a box office bomb.

The Rev hopes Nym paid to see it and found a cockroach in his popcorn.

Well, P.I.A.H. solves it and the Rev is still confused. Never heard of the guy or the movie.

TUCKER%20CAR%201.JPG

Well, Rev, the Tucker was a pretty snazzy car for 1946, when GM and Ford and Chrysler were still turning out the same clunky models they had made before the war. Its engine was in the rear, and that thing in the center of the grille was a light that turned as the car turned corners. :D

UNE VOODOO TIGER A NANNER
- Song from the Seventies, whose title carries a message of funky patriotism
- The band leader shares a surname with a recent President
- the title plays on a line from a pledge once taken daily by American schoolkids
- the band is synonymous with funk, right down to their name, which starts with 'funk'
- the band had another hit that might evoke Candyland for some, but 'Chocolate City' envisioned a very different future

Mr. Hat, at times you make Nym look positively wonderful and this is one of those times.

Okay, I get that it is Parliament Funkadelic (which you might be surprised to learn I have NEVER HEARD OF!) and which is most often just referred to as Parliament on the web. (Minor detail)

And I get that George Clinton from said band shares a surname with a recent president.

But I am still having trouble with finding a song whose title plays on a pledge said daily by American school kids. Oh wait...no...this must be it: Tear the Roof Off the Sucker/Give Up the Funk.

I will give Google another five minutes and then I have to get to bed. Good thing I can sleep in tomorrow!

Too kind, dear Rev, but Nym doesn't need me for that. ;)

You... have never... heard of... P-Funk?! *faints at the thought of Rev's deprivation* Here it is... one of THE musical revelations of my young life!

If it weren't for P-Funk, Red Hot Chili Peppers would be, well, Matchbox 20

ONE NATION UNDER A GROOVE

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Gettin' down just foooooooooor the funk of it!

Doyapromisetafunk... the whole funk... nothin' but the funk...

*snaps fingers, shakes booty*

SILLY HASMAT TO FREE FRYCA

(Actor on popular sketch show and character he played.)
(The character sold himself as knowing how to live a productive life, yet his own living arrangements were those of a loser.)
(But he had a nice view of the water.)

Here we go again. This is going to turn out to be a sketch show--or at least a sketch--that I have never seen.

Another sketch-show identity - actually, a duo:

BAND OWL JESTER, HOE SHAKE TROUBLED
- Sketch was a musical act that became a huge hit
- The duo were well known for their distinct dress as well as their personalities and music
- the duo went on to make a film (more than one, actually, but it's the first one that matters), notable for the band and cameo parts being basically a Who's Who of the music world in their genre... and for a car-chase scene that destroyed untold numbers of autos
- Of the two actors who played the duo, one went on to great fame in comedy films, and has some respectable musical chops as well (which is not as widely known).
- The other actor starred in one of the best-loved comedy films of the period (which took place on a college campus), but famously died of a drug overdose.

JAKE AND ELWOOD, THE BLUES BROTHERS, played by John Belusi and Dan Aykroyd. And the Rev just happens to own a CD holder with 3-foot-high figures of Jake and Elwood. She talks to them at times, but so far, they have not answered.
