That... is actually a really complex question, and would require a thread of its' own to go into fully, but - simplifying things heavily - no. For a more detailed answer, you are gonna have to identify which of the portal storytelling techniques you are interested in writing. I have two very different portal stories on the back-burner at the moment, and they can be infinitely entertaining.

I love portal fantasy, when it's done right. I'm working on a sort of variation of that right now.

Neverwhere is the portal story I'm about to curl up with.

My theory is that any story that is well written is worth reading.

Regardless of tropes or market saturation.

New Years Day dinner is always the best, especially when there's Oreo pie.
