I've been bouncing an MG idea around in my head. It's a secondary world high fantasy that, as it turns out, centers around a 'special' school. The issue, of course, is that I know the 'special school' trope is used a lot in Middle Grade books.
I don't know much about the MG market because I've been writing mostly YA up until now, but for those who are more up on the Middle Grade industry side of things - is having a special school considered too cliche for editors? Do editors tend to shy away from that sort of thing? Or does it depend on how you do it?
Sorry if these all seem like noobish questions. I'm just starting to read MG again and learn about the market. Any advice you could give would be great
