I blogged today on the language and wit of political insults. Now I'm researching literary insults for a new post and would be grateful for any offers, especially funny ones.

Do you mean insults as written by the likes of Shakespeare? As in 'the devil damn thee black thou cream faced loon'. Or insults written by authors about or to other authors?

Literary insults

Sorry, should have clarified: I mean insults traded between authors, or similar (author to publisher, for example). See my blog on political insults for examples in that genre. Thanks for giving me the chance to clear that up.

My favourite political insult is an old classic.

Lady Astor: Ah, Winston, drunk again I see.

Winston Churchill: I may be drunk, but you are ugly. And in the morning I shall be sober.
