As recently calculated in another thread (;)), instantly vaporizing water, which human tissue mostly is, is about equivalent to setting off the same amount of TNT.

If there are ever civilian lasers, they'll probably, by law, have some sort of laser-pointer built in, just so that the military weapons will have an advantage.
Now that's funny - I can see an underground article, "How to break the law and circumvent the civilian weapon disadvantage to military weapons with a small piece of electrical tape."

Why? Civilian guns don't have mandatory laserpointers.

Yet.

Jokes aside, I heard its illegal for civilians in the US to use tracer rounds. So maybe the government wants the civilian lasers to be invisible weapons, too. :)
