My faith in humanity just went up a whole lot of notches.
A couple of weeks ago I received an email that had been doing the rounds. Our local assisted-living facility for quadraplegics was three months away from having to close down due to lack of funds. They planned a fund-raising fete for today and asked the community for help.
My daughter and I baked cakes and cupcakes (15 dozen between us), bagged all the beadwork that's been laying around our houses and helped them set up a cake stall and a costume jewelery stall. By 7:15 this morning, people began arriving with more cakes, plants and flowers for the garden stall, clothing, bric-a-brac, books, food, toys and heaven knows what else. By the truckload!!
At 8:00am the gates opened and literally hundreds of people arrived. For five hours it was like a buying frenzy. Most stalls sold out completely! I watched the faces of the facility's residents go from worry to joy and relief. I can't tell you how good that felt. I don't know how much money they made but I have no doubt that they won't have to close any time soon.
And the predicted rain didn't fall.
Gail,
in a happy bubble.
