Hello all, this looks like a great site for writers.
I have a question about writing about a real person (who died)
in a fcitional tale. (if I will have legal troubles or if its ok).
Can somebody please tell me where this subject should be posted,so I can go into greater detail?

Thank you

Maryn

I'm no expert, except at saying welcome, but my understanding is that the rights to a person's story belong to that person and his/her heirs, not an interested writer who might actually craft it into something marketable, whether as fiction or non-fiction.

However, any documents which are part of a public record--court transcripts, newspaper accounts, police reports--can be fodder for your manuscript.

Maryn, clear as mud (but warmer and friendlier)

Welcome to AW. Hope you enjoy your stay with us.
How do you like your popcorn?

If you go to the bottom of the page to the ‘forum jump’ you can scroll down and find all the areas of this place. Most of the SYW areas require the password of ….vista. Good luck.

Welcome Inkhead.

My guess is because the person is dead, you can do anything. But all my legal knowledge comes from old Matlock episodes so I'd check with a lawyer first.

Good luck.
