Food? *listens to growling tummy*
Yes, food would be good.

Heh. I set out this morning to see if the slang term "skirt" was used prior to the 1900's. Hours later I come back with "tipping the velvet", which has absolutely nothing to do with what I was looking for. However I've become so smitten with the phrase I simply must find a place for it in my story.

Oh. I see. You want the slang "skirt" as in a woman, not the origins of the article of clothing. Hmmmmm, back to the search....

I looked up "tipping the velvet". Oh. my.

Princess Wicked, this is the only reference I can find to a time line of usage. It isn't answering your question, but it is a start, I hope. http://onlineslangdictionary.com/meaning-definition-of/skirt

Thank you, Ambrosia.
It's as I feared. The term is too new. I kind of figured as much. Every time I said it all I could picture was gangsters and tommy guns.

Though one of my husband's friends use to call me a skirt. The most memorable example is when I beat his score at bowling, "I can't believe I was beat by a skirt!"
It was both amusing and satisfying. :D

Yup.

Had a hunch that was what it meant.

Wait a minute, why is the queen serving us? Shouldn't this be the other way around?

Your majesty, would you like a handsome peasant to dally with? I've got a new braid of rope. It would be my pleasure to drag one or two of them in here for you. :D

*sigh*
*drags in empty lasso, and drops down on the fainting couch*

I think I scared all the cowboys out of the saloon.
Maybe I should take up a nice quiet hobby, like water boarding.

Alright. What's been going on in here since I've been gone?

The usual insanity. :D

But it's been awhile since we had any action. No coups, no invading armies. This whole peace thing has really got me down.

Last time I was here it was still just the Royalty for a Week

Whoa.

That long, eh?

You missed it, Dan, I was king for two weeks running. Mainly because no one else would take the job. But we can pretend it was because I was so loved and adored.

:D
