Morning...i meditated for a couple hours and now I feel well rested.

How wonderful! Do you mind if I ask you about your meditation? If so, just ignore me. Do you try to clear your mind of everything, completely? Or do you meditate on something in particular?

I (try to) do both and I suck at it. :D I still try, though.

That's the wine.

You're trying too hard. Just think of a simple, peaceful image, such as a palm treed beach with gentle open waves. If you catch yourself thinking, go back to your mental image.

Sure I can help, I just got into Zen so at first you count your breaths in and out like this, one, two. You keep counting until you reach ten, but if a thought distracts you, you come back to 1 midway. Once you've done that for a good 15-20 minutes, you can count both in and out breaths as 1, until you reach 10. This time around it takes you twice as long. Once you notice both breaths in and out, clearing your mind becomes so much easier. I was resting in bed as if I was sleeping because it was really late, and it's the most comfortable position. You can sit but you need special cushions for that, and the bed hurts a bit.

P.S. Any passing thought that distracts you, you can simply let pass non judgmentally. This is done so you don't think you have to force yourself to clear your mind.

You can also do the breathing while you're walking, that's called walking meditation.

I have a link to a free body scan, if you're interested. You basically rest in bed, and pay attention to each part of your body. At the end of it, you should be very sleepy.

and AC, I wish I had some wine, because I'm sure you have some nearby.

There is a way to do a sort of self-hypnosis using that technique; at the end you make yourself "float".

I'd like to hypnotize myself! Where did you hear that?

There is a book on it (from some years ago). You don't really hypnotize yourself, it's more like quieting your subconscious mind long enough to make it listen. Sort of.

And if someone wants a book with a similar technique, there is The Relaxation Response.

My sensei recommended the following books. I haven't read them yet, because I'm reading something else at the moment, but they come from a good source.

Excellent! Thanks for the tips. My mind, unfortunately, will just never quiet down. It has Stuff To Say. ::sigh:: I'll try the breathing!

That's because your stomach is saying "Bacon" and "Cheeseburger" and "Pepperoni pizza".

Because Jenna Glatzer, the original owner of AW, wrote an authorized biography of Celine Dion and it was a place for both the fans of the book and for Celine Dion fans to hang out.
