It might be that your soil there has good drainage. A sandy soil usually is. Here we have clay soils, which are not.
Yep. We got clay here, which is why, according to the original plans of the house, it has a 'floating foundaton'. But somebody
lied. There is no floating foundation here. But under the concrete it's river sand - no clay. So I think the clayey soil was removed and replaced with the river sand.
I can dig down 4ft in my garden, at this time of year, and the hole will fill with water in a matter of minutes. There's so much clay I'm thinking of taking up pottery.
Or make potted gondolas .... or sumfink. I think Venice is sitting on mud - or sinking sand. Must be, on the river of Po (or poo)
