Question about publishing a trilogy

why not publish all at once?

What's the downside of publishing all at once? How would it hurt sales?

If your novel is good, many readers will want to move right on to the second. Wait 3 month to a year, they may have forgotten. People are fickle like that. And it's not like being published by a major label, where the latest and greatest is splashed everywhere to jog your memory.

If something didn't tweak my memory, I'd even forget to search for blockbusters like the next Lee Child or whatever.
