Okay, I give up. What's wrong with the following control line? I've tried about every combo that I can think of...but every time I try to use this line with the Option 1 in the Upload Signature Picture, I get a message that it's an invalid URL

http://www.nanowrimo.org/NanowrimoUtils/LiveSupporter/XXXX.png

When I use the embedded URL with my user number, IE finds the file.

Any ideas? What is the correct command format? (XXXX is my user number)

Thanks

Have you tried putting the URL between IMG tags? e.g.

url]

I inserted spaces above just to show the tags. When I remove the spaces so the tags are hard up against the URL:

XXXX.png

Thanks for the reply, D.

What I was trying to do is to link in the "live" participant/word count widget from the NaNo site and use the Option 1 to link it in. That doesn't seem to work--either AW or NaNo is bouncing it. If I put the URL in without the tags the error message is "Invalid URL". If I include the tags the error message is "Invalid File".

The only way I could get it to work was to use Option 2 (after copying the widget to my computer). That's the one below the line on my sigline

So, the problem still exists.

Mayday... not sure what the problem is... I added that XXXX.png link you listed above to my sigline, just by putting
after (no spaces). Again it's the one that shows "Participant / 0 Words" not the generic one in your sigline.

Nope Derek, still doesn't work.

I put that exact command line in Option 1 and get "Invalid File" (used copy/paste so my typing isn't suspect.)

AW adds to the body of my signature file, but that's all (besides the error message) that happens.

So, off to drink some scotch and think a bit.

Thanks for trying -- it's a mystery.

I took a look at your signature. Seems like the SIGPIC option to display a graphic doesn't like the Participant png file, don't ask me why!

I replaced the SIGPIC code in your sigline with the same IMG code I used in my own sigline just to see if it worked. Looks OK to me -- what do you think?

Thanks Derek, it looks good.

Having been totally flummoxed by this problem, and still reeling from the many attempts, can you tell me exactly where you put the command line?

Is it in Option 1, or directly in the signature box?

And, what is the exact command line you used?

Thanks for your help.

If you take a look at your signature (Quick Links > Edit Signature or User CP > Edit Signature) you'll see the IMG code line I added (containing the XXXX.png filename) right at the top of the Your Signature: box, replacing the SIGPIC code line.

Thanks again, Derek, but the signature block only shows the actual widget, not the command line.

Anyway, I tried <IMG>http://www.nanowrimo.org/NanowrimoUtils/LiveSupporter/mynumber.png</IMG>

(replacing the <> with []) and it still didn't work.

So, I give up and will work with the widget downloaded to my pc, then up to the signature box.

I updated your sigline with your member # and it's showing OK (in your signature and mine). If and when you update your wordcount total on the NaNoWriMo site, the word count and progress bar should reflect this.

Finally Works

Morning Derek (It's early morning here in Arizona),

For the eighth or tenth time I put the
in the sigline box, and voila', it works.

I wonder if the problem was something over at the NaNo site?

In any case, it works, and points to the correct widget. Thank you for the time and effort you put into what in the end turns out to be a non-problem.

Regards,
George
