Selling is SO last century.

We do time shares now. (but you gotta watch Cthulhu, he always wants to hog the holidays.)

Time shares? Look you guys, I was okay with selling my soul, I had no problem signing the contract with blood and I bled the chihuahua (just a little, Haggis didn't even notice). But time shares? No way. That's just too murky for me.

Hardcore is the place where threads go to die

someplace around here, anyone seen my keys?
Folks please - DO NOT HOTLINK images from other sites. On a recent thread one hotlinked image was transmuted by the originating server into a huge porno picture.

Hotlinking is not cool.

Also, argument by goofy analogy is not allowed in Hardcore...

that's like trying to get rid of softcore porn.

you might not like it, but some people prefer it to the hardcore stuff.

thank you

see Ageless Stranger's post above? The image there is probably not the one he thought would be showing. That's because of hotlinking. Here's what I said on another thread, the one that had a porno picture show up because of a hotlink:

Quoted from Dawno from another source:
If you hotlink you're 'borrowing' an image from the server where it's stored - apparently that site makes people who hotlink pay for the unauthorized use of their images by swapping out what the borrower thought you were sharing for porn...other sites have little message gifs or just block the link and you end up with one of those red x thingies instead of a picture.

So basically, you're linking the picture to this site without first uploading it yourself. It essentially steals bandwidth from the other site, so sometimes sites will swap out the picture to teach you a lesson. Now, if you merely paste the link for someone to click on, you're fine, that's not bandwidth theft. But if you want the photo to appear in the post, you have to upload it yourself rather than link the image directly from the other website.
I'd also like to mention this - many folk here post their written work on blogs or maybe have articles in webzines or online versions of print publications. If someone took that entire work and posted it without attribution on a forum or their blog, wouldn't you be unhappy?

Taking a picture from a site with out a backlink or attribution is almost like that - yes, there are fair uses, I'm not a lawyer so I don't know what those are. But while you can excerpt from a written doc and link to the rest of it, you can't excerpt a picture or a political cartoon so you either have to 'borrow' the image, host it on your own photohosting site (and your TOS with them could mean you can lose your rights to use the hosting service and all your images on it if they get a copyright complaint), and then link to the image you've stored, or you can just put the URL link to the picture at it's original host and hope people will click and look (this is the nicest way to do it as it gives the host site clicks that may help them with revenue and it acknowledges the photographer/artist).

So, fyi I will delete any political cartoons I see posted here and revert them to links.

Please think about this before deciding to share any images in posts. As for sigs and avatars...I personally think it's also worth considering, but I can't really make a stand on that position. At the end of the day, if there's a complaint about your use of a copyrighted image, you're the one held accountable.

Say wha??? Can you guys see something else? All I see is a picture of Korriban (a hellish planet belonging to the Sith in Star Wars canon)!

bwahahahahaha!!!

*ahem*

Mac and I will be conferring on the future of P&CE soon. The thread makes some good points and is appreciated (mostly ;) )

Hardcore is what you make it, ultimately. Most everyone who wants access can have it - I just don't get a lot of requests until I port a thread someone wants to keep arguing participating in and they don't have access...

Vegas, baby
I agree that hardcore really seems much more tame than 'softcore' P&CE.

I think that many factors led to that, like fewer people to post, but mostly I think it's because those who have entry permission don't tend to get as hot under the collar as others.

They state a pretty damned good case out the gate sometimes, too. It's not likely that you can argue the point then.

Still, one member is trying to stir the pot with lots of controversial OPs lately. Yeah, I know it's all from one side of an issue, but if people want other topics discussed, then all they have to do is start a thread.

It's pretty easy to do.
