Football/Baseball/Basketball question

Mostly for ID.
In football the different numbers like:
70's for defensive linemen
60's offensive linemen
50's linebackers
80's receivers/wide-outs/tight-ends
20 - 40's running backs, defensive backs
0 - 20's kickers, quarterbacks

For most of the other sports, not really
although they like to get the 'HOT' numbers
of what ever player in their sport is well known
i.e. - (23) michael jordan, (99) - wayne gretzy etc...

For Football (Soccer) the number counts.

10 - Playmaker
7 - Winger
9 - Striker
6 - Midfield Man
11 - Second Striker (not that used)
2 - Right Back
3, 4 - Centre Defender


For Basketball, it doesn't count.

I know you didn't ask about volleyball, but most coaches keep lower numbers (1-5 usually) reserved for setters. Which pissed me off when I switched to setter because my number is 13 and they made me wear 4.

In hockey, the numbers 30-33 are usually reserved for the goaltender. The number 9 was usually reserved for the team leader (like Gordie Howe of the Detroit Red Wings.) The rest are all up for grabs.

And in hockey, 99 is reserved for demigods.

In the past (not sure about today) high school basketball numbers could not include numbers higher than 5, so the referee could flash the number to the official scorer on one hand. 50 through 55 were the highest numbers you could wear, then 40 - 45 and so on.

FYI: This is an old thread (over a year old). I'm sure the original poster has gotten what they need by now.
