Wow, 4 deleted posts in a row. I must've missed something juicy! All while I was asleep... Damn my Australian location!

Anyway, I still have 4 votes. I will admit I quite like Muse, Diana, so they can have a complimentary vote. I would've pegged them more as alternative than rock though, but that's just me.

So... 3 votes left...

Someone mentioned Joy Division. I quite like them too, so they can have a vote.

My 2 remaining votes will remain aces up my sleeve. :)

Just to be clear: Metal is a type of rock music. Alternative is a type of rock music. Etc.

We still okay with The Osmonds? There might be some confusion, which would explain why they haven't received more votes .... ;)

I'll use as my standard Most Influential, which in particular means groups that influenced the following course of pop music in a major way, and have staying power. This list differs some from my personal subjective favorites.

Beatles
Led Zeppelin
Beach Boys
Black Sabbath
Rolling Stones

I'm not sure what "Best" means, and it's even more difficult to define
"rock band" but here's my list of the my most influential musical groups.
Without these few, I wouldn't care to listen.

The Velvet Underground
Siouxie & The Banshees
The Patti Smith Group
The Cure
Sonic Youth

*With an honorable mention to The Runaways and the determination of the still recording Joan Jett who was told No, No, No, by record label after record label forcing her to finance her own band, her own tour, press her own 45rpm record of their new single "I Love Rock & Roll" and sell it out of the trunk of her car after live shows... =P

When talking about "best evah," here's something interesting:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_albums_worldwide

It fascinates me that AC/DC's Back in Black is number one, for bands. No less fascinating is Meat Loaf's appearance at #5. Of course Dark Side of the Moon is there and of course MJ's Thriller is number one for all albums.

Many of the usual suspects populate the rest of the list. Looking strictly at rock bands, it's not all that surprising.

Anyway, my Top Five All Time bands is subject to change, from time to time. Right now, I'd say thusly:

1. Stones
2. Beatles
3. Doors
4. Eagles
5. AC/DC

When I was younger--like, last week--I might have had Zeppelin, Skynyrd, and Black Sabbath on there. And I have a real hard time leaving Queen out of any "best" list. But so it goes...

Woo AC/DC!

Not that I really listen to them often, but hey, they're a popular export.

*is glad Cradle Of Filth now have 2 nominations*
*waits for someone else to be in love with The Agonist*
