Beloved is the only book by Toni Morrison I've tried to read. I liked it. I finished it. I even remember it, which is a pretty good trick given the sheer quantity I devour.

Yep, Camilla, it can be tricky balancing one's own writing with reading books by others. Then I throw in editing just to totally muddy the waters.

Still reading Tokyo Cancelled. I'll finish tonight, and then I dunno. Maybe a reread of The Book Thief by (I think) Markus Zusak, because it rocks. I won't allow myself to buy any new books because we're moving from Thailand to Vietnam in two weeks.

Archaic Revival by Terence McKenna

and

Parallel Universes by Fred Alan Wolf

both are mind-blowingly great.

Just finished Tongues of Serpents by Naomi Novik.

The ending had me worried for a second that it would be the last book. Thankfully not.

Finished The Keepsake yesterday. It was kind of meh. Would have liked to see more of what was going on outside of the case. I think I'll hold off on reading the next one.

In the meantime, trying to decide what to read next. Nothing's really jumping out at me.

Succubus in the City by Nina Harper. It's fun and the style doesn't irritate me, so I'll read it to the end. Maybe the first chick lit I'll finish.

I finished Beloved.

I really feel like reading some fantasy.

The Big Con: The Story of the Confidence Man, by David Maurer (Author), Luc Sante (Introduction)

I'm nearly done reading it -- now reading the glossary (which adds many bits of information to the main text). Fascinating! Originally published in 1940 (the intro. is much more recent). It was a lucky find on the sale shelves at B&N.

I finished As Lie the Dead by our very own Kelly Medding aka ChaosTitan and thoroughly enjoyed it!

Now I just started Adam by Ted Dekker. A promising start.

I just finished The Quickie by James Patterson. It came recommended by two friends. This is the first time I've ever read a Patterson. I believe I've lost several IQ points and possibly need new friends.

I am now reading Tweak by Nick Sheff. God, I do love used book stores.

If you like Tweak, you should also read BEAUTIFUL BOY which tells this story from David Sheff's view. David is Nick's dad.

NEVERMIND... LOL I see that you've already read it.

At long last, I am about to read Babbit, by Sinclair Lewis. I knew I'd been holding on to my 1962 Signet paperback edition (yes, I have had it since then) for just the right moment.

p.s. update 8/28/10: just finished reading it . . . whew! scathing. Makes me want to jump right into reading Elmer Gantry.

Reading Book of the Dead by Patricia Cornwell,

I...don't know what to think of it so far. In some ways it's good but I don't know, I can't find myself getting into it.

Maybe it's because I've just finished reading a Lynda La Plante novel so I'm sort of comparing the two and her style of writing is better...

The Man in the High Castle. Classic.

Saw The Giver in Borders over the weekend. Read that in school. Like 20 years ago. I think I remember liking it so I think I might try it again.

Wow, and I thought I read a lot at one time! I usually have 3 or 4 books going at once.

Well, I never said I'd finish them all! A couple are going back to the library half read. I can't get into Emily Windsnap or Magyk and know they are both big bestsellers but I can't figure out why.
