They report that one American official told them that "the activity we are seeing suggests some potential chemical weapon preparation," though the official "declined to offer more specifics of what those preparations entailed."

Since Sadam's regime did use plenty of chemical weapons it is no wonder this sounds familiar.
Iraq had no chemical weapons at all in the noughties. They conquered the country, turned it upside down, found absolutely nothing.
The issue of Iraq's weapons of mass destruction was central to the case put for UK involvement in the 2003 war, but no significant stockpiles of usable chemical or biological weapons were ever found.
Apparently, Turkey is concerned about Syria's chemical weapons as well...wonder how many civilians will need to suffer before the UN thinks about calling together a committee?
