Some guitars I made

Apart from writing fiction, I also write songs, which lead me to play guitar, which led me to build guitars. It's a sickness.
Anyway, this first one is only a refinish job. The guitar came from a giant Korean factory and had this nasty dipped in plastic finish. I stripped it down and sprayed it with lacquer.

I built the next two from American black walnut. The first is a telecaster style and the other is an original hollow body design of my own.

It's currently undergoing a facelift.

Please do not link to very large images; keep them to within about 400 x 400 pixels, and small files, please. Images from high resolution cameras (5 or more megapixels) may need to have their resolution (the dpi) changed to 72 dpi.

Gorgeous. Love the shade of the first one, love the superb walnut patterns of the second one, and ooooboy the white one's nice too!

Photobucket's edit options have improved from what I remember, it's kinda easy now to edit and shrink pics.

When you view your Photobucket album, hover your mouse arrow over the thumbnail you want to edit. The "cogwheel" will display, hover your mouse arrow over this and options will pop down:

I selected Edit

When the image displayed, I selected Resize from the toolbar.

The pic I chose was Width 764 and Height 1023 which displayed in editable fields.

I changed the larger 1023 number to 400, and the width automatically changed to 298

I selected the Apply button.

I then selected the Save button -- note that you have the option to tick "Replace original" to overwrite the existing file, or if you don't tick this, a new (smaller) image file will be saved.

The smaller image I saved has its own URL, as you'd expect, which can be copy/pasted in place of the original URL, e.g.

Still big enough to see details, but less load on the server!

Very nice work! The first one's body looks like it has some Les Paul mixed with PRS influences.

I like the white one, too. Is that a custom made tail piece? Looks like one from an archtop/hollow body, but it has a really cool shape to it like on some Gretsch models. Very cool.

The first one is a PRS SE Soapbar model. It was cherry red to begin with and much abused when it came to me. It's a PRS version of a Les Paul Special.

The tailpiece is one I ordered from a guitar parts supplier. Yes, it's similar to a Gretsch tailpiece. The guitar is completely hollow inside, but without the traditional F holes. I built this one for live performances where a traditional hollowbody struggles with feedback issues.

My dad lived on a farm as a boy and spent some time as a homebuilder so I grew up with a shop full of tools.
It's no different than learning to write; the correct tools, some good instruction and many hours (literally) in the woodshed practicing. For me, finish work has been the hardest to learn. Evil witches, I believe, place a hex on every can of paint. For guitars specifically, the fretboard and fretwork present the biggest challenge. There's zero room for error there.

This is one of my favorite details on the white one. I like the transition from neck to headstock.
