Don't worry about formatting. Agents know if you paste something in it won't look as nice as it would as an attachment. The only thing you need to do is close any gaps between your sections (bio, comparative titles, chapter outlines, etc.), assuming you're starting each new section on a separate page.

If they tell you to paste it into an email, just do a version without formatting - no page breaks, tabs, centered text, etc.

I agree. I always save as .txt before pasting. No formatting = no glitches.
