Is there any reason you couldn't say to the person 'this needs work,' and offer some constructive criticism? Loan them a few books on writing? Help them rather than dismiss them?
My first efforts at writing were pitiful - I mean it, gob smackingly bad. A friend read them ,and bless, instead of throwing up and telling me never to do it again, he helped me see why it was bad. Now I'm at the point where, although I'm not published, I do get personalised rejections saying it was good....That counts for something, right? RIGHT?
