Found a personality quiz that is actually pretty fun and suggests which fantasy writer you resemble writing wise. It breaks it down to four different parts of your personality (Low vs. High brow, violent vs. peaceful, traditional vs. experimental, cynical vs. romantic).

I got a mix of low-brow, peaceful, experimental, and cynical, which apparently puts me in the same category as Orson Scott Card. The only one I kind of disagree with is the cynical label (my graduating class even voted me 'Least Ready for the Cruel World')

I'm curious to see how other AWers fare:

I'm China Mieville. Awesome. (I'm also a lot like Michael Moorcock...OSC is my EXACT OPPOSITE. :))

I'm high-brow, violent, traditional, and romantic. Fabulous.

Gasp! My polar opposite! But that's cool, together we could corner the fantasy market! Bwahaha!

Uh... Yeah, there's something really, really wrong with the test.

It came up with Mary Gentle! And it had the nerve to tell me this...

Congratulations! You are High-Brow, Violent, Experimental and Cynical!

You scored 17 on High-Brow, higher than 78% of your peers.
You scored 25 on Violent, higher than 96% of your peers.
You scored 25 on Experimental, higher than 94% of your peers.
You scored 35 on Cynical, higher than 99% of your peers.

Somebody had better tell them that the results are coming out wrong.

Susan Cooper...I can live with that. (Although apparently I'm way more of a snob than I realized!)

It told me I'm OSC. I believe it is mistaken.

ETA: Took it again. Robert Jordan. Also wrong.

Congratulations! You are Low-Brow, Peaceful, Traditional and Cynical!

Low-Brow? That comes from my not appreciating when people are overtly pretentious for the sake of it. But hell, I likes me my pretentious. I read Camus! I love Aronofsky films! Low-brow indeed...

I'm Phillip Pullman, apparently. :D

"Congratulations! You are High-Brow, Peaceful, Experimental and Cynical!" I find it vaguely hilarious to be congratulated on this.

My scores:

7 High-Brow, -13 Violent, 23 Experimental and 11 Cynical

Congratulations! You are High-Brow, Violent, Traditional and Cynical! These concepts are defined below.

5 High-Brow, 15 Violent, -5 Experimental and 13 Cynical!

Yep. That's me in a nutshell.

I'm Michael Moorcock, apparently (and a lot like China Mievelle, but completely opposite to Katherine Kerr).

15 Highbrow, 1 Violent, -3 Experimental, 5 Cynical.

To be honest, for about three-quarters of the questions i struggled to find answers that might possibly could be somehow similar to something i might actually answer if it weren't a multi-choice.

Mary Gentle (b. 1956)
33 High-Brow, 13 Violent, 39 Experimental and 31 Cynical!

You are also a lot like Gene Wolfe.
If you want something more gentle (no pun intended), try Philip Pullman.
If you'd like a challenge, try your exact opposite, J K Rowling.

Not bad. Before taking this quiz I wanted to be the love-child of Gene Wolfe and Robert Ludlum, but trained to my craft by Ian McEwan.

And... Rowling makes me twitch.

And...

What the hell.

21 High-Brow, -17 Violent, 17 Experimental and 33 Cynical!

Similar: Pullman, Jansson, Wolfe
Opposite: Tolkien

Didn't tell me much I didn't already know. Surprised at the low Violent rating, but then, it's just a test.

This is rubbish!

It's asking about personality, not story.

We write F I C T I O N kids, the characters might reflect parts of us, but they are not us.

I'm a husband, dad, colleague. I read the Guardian. I fix things by talking and negotiation.

My protagonist lives in a Medieval world and wields a greatsword. He fixes thing by cutting people in two and walking between the twitching halves.

Guess that makes me Ursula Le Guin too, right?

(Actually, I already know I'm the reincarnation of Robert E Howard channelling Edgar Rice Burroughs and Leigh Bracket's lovechild.)
