Im in the process of writing a new post war novel.
But Im in a pickle. My characters want to flee from France to Usa. How would people do that post war? I know commercial fights werent available. Did they travel by boat? How long would it take? Did you need visas etc?

Commercial flights were available from late 1945.
Boats were a bit more difficult because a lot of them were still tied up moving troops back to the U.S.
At that time, I believe it was still relatively easy to get into the U.S. to live. If my memory serves me right, you paid a fee on arrival and had to demonstrate a basic knowledge of English, usually by reading a paragraph or two of something. You may want to check that.
