That was a great link!

GarageBand, Acid, and similar are fairly inexpensive and come with some decent loops. (A search will probably bring up some nice freebie programs as well.)

Making a deal with a local band, or connecting with one on MySpace is your best bet - DON'T use songs you hear on the radio - you'll get your trailer pulled. Same goes for classical music - while the music may be public domain, the performances aren't.

Animation is going to cost you quite a bit, and is very time intensive. I'm working on some 'animations' built out of still photographs:

I've yet to see a great book trailer, but I've seen decent ones, and flat out cryptic ones. Don't forget a link to your site, your NAME, what the book or series is about...all that fun stuff.

Thank you very much for the useful link. Book trailers can be one of the most eye catching promotional material. Thanks to free video host sites, we can disseminate as many videos as we want. For those who don't have a budget for making book trailers, try animoto.com. It's a website where you can create heart pounding videos--for FREE. =)
