Hi,

On Emily van Beek's page she writes: If you're a novelist, please include a synopsis, the first ten pages of your manuscript, and any relevant information (such as previous publishing experience) in the body of your email.

Does that mean a query letter + a separate synopsis + the first ten pages? Or does she mean the synopsis should be part of the query?

Thanks:)

I would assume that in addition to the query, she wants a synopsis and the first ten pages.

Best of luck.

Scott Hoffman

Anyone know if he's swamped or if he's a no responder? His instructions on his website say that he'll get back to queries in two weeks and if he doesn't to resend.

http://foliolit.com/scott-hoffman/

I send a query on 9/2. No answer.

I send it again on 9/20. Still no answer.

He took a month to reject me back in June.

E-Query sent to Scott Hoffman Oct 20, Form R delivered today. The Folio website had mentioned how much he wants dark fantasy, so I'd really thought I had a match. Oh well, moving on.

I'll give my stats, since I was a stats junkie when I was querying. :D

Queried Molly Jaffa: November 9th

Request for first 50 pages: November 16th

Request for the full manuscript: November 18th

Offer of Representation: November 22nd

So she was very fast! And very nice. I'd recommend her to anyone!! Oh, and my novel is YA post apocalyptic.

Congratulations, Renee! I read your announcement post after seeing Natalie Whipple's note on her blog. That must be all kinds of wonderful for you :)

Hey everyone,

I queried Marcy Posner back in September and never received a reply. Is she a no response = no, or is there a chance she never received the query? Their website doesn't say.

She responded to my query in September within 3 weeks. She may not have received yours. I'd resend it.

Just a question, I'm looking for the general consensus: how soon is too soon to query on a full with this agency? I know it's much too early yet, but I'm trying to squelch the ants in my pants...just so I have a rough idea. Any opinions?

Cheering you all on!
I would wait 3 months before nudging on any full.

Who's it with? I've had a full out with one of their agents for five months and I never did hear back, even after nudging and informing him twice of an offer. I'd expect a slow response, in any case.

It's with Marcy Posner, whom I'm a little in awe of...very nerve-wracking! I'm so sorry about your experience there, that's awful!

Anyone hear from Molly Jaffa lately? She seems to be swift with the responses, although she does say she can take up to two weeks (ants in my pants as well, obviously!).

Lately, I've been concerned my emails are winding up in the spam folder, although I'm probably just paranoid and should remember that agents are busy folks with more pressing things to do than answer my query. ;)

Anyway, EQ'd Molly on 2/27.

Quick R. I queried Jeff and received a polite rejection 24 hours later. Alas, but much preferred to silence!

PitchFest with Molly Jaffa

I just posted a link to your interview, Krista! We're having our next PitchFest starting Sunday... with Molly! So excited. She's extremely nice and eager to help writers out.

(FYI - at Pitch University, you can pitch works in progress.)

I just posted an interview with Molly Jaffa on my blog today. It's specifically geared toward queriers - and I made sure to ask her that age-old question about the difference between magical realism and paranormal/urban fantasy, since she likes one but not the other:)

Here's the link:

http://motherwrite.blogspot.com/2010/06/interview-with-agent-molly-jaffa.html

Best of luck to everyone waiting to hear back from her (or one of her colleagues)!

Queried Michelle Brower on 8th February. Form rejection received 30th March. I believe Michelle is currently closed to queries (saw a note on the Folio Lit website), but it looks like she's still reading through queries already sent in to her.
