Query/Proposal/Agent ?

Newbie question. I sent out a query and received a quick note back from the agent asking for the proposal. Agent asked if it was an exclusive submission and I told her it was until early October. So, realistically, how long would it take to hear back once the proposal is sent out?

Thank you for your opinion.

There is no "average" time. I've had agents call me 2 days after they got my proposal and write me 6 weeks after they got it (both acceptances) or not respond at all. It just depends on what else they are doing that takes up their time and how much they like the proposal.

I have heard that the two wrong times to contact agents is in September when the book fairs are going on and right after the holidays in early January as they are trying to get caught up and get the end-of-year stuff handled.

If an agent has asked for an exclusive, 30 days is an acceptable amount of time for the agent to decide whether they want to represent you.
