Lizzie's "official" book launch is set for 7 PM on March 7 at Swansea Public Library, Swansea MA.

Plus, the library director wants me to give a talk on writing and publishing on March 28. I better figure something out between now and then.

Woohooo! Vandal, you're going to figure out publishing between now and March 7? Lucky you -- you'll be the only one who understands it. ;)

I said I'm going to figure "something" out by then. And it's the 28th, so I get three more weeks to make "something" up!

Here's what I'd say: write, then write some more, then edit, then edit some more, then query, then query some more, then get rejected, then get rejected some more, then revise, then revise some more, then get rejected and rejected some more, then maybe one day good news will come. Be prepared to continue this pattern for many years.

Too shiny for the Pit, but perfect for SPitshine...I'm holding a Pitch Contest on the blog. Chance for feedback from me - and more importantly - my agents. :) Good luck to those that enter.

Lizzie's book launch is tomorrow night!

The books arrived at the bookstore, so at least one nightmare prevented.

Now I just have to not make a complete fool out of myself...

Yay, Vandal. Hope the launch went well!

I'm popping out of lurkdom again to share some interesting, slightly shiny news.

I'm not entirely sure what to make of this, but I'm working on a revision for an editor who wants to take one of my MG's to acquisition.

So far she's been stunningly friendly, professional, enthusiastic, and prompt—did I mention prompt?

I'm refraining from injecting too much hope into the situation, but at the very least, it's a great experience to get an editorial letter that's encouraging, insightful, and makes sense. And hopefully I'll learn some (not-so-painful, please) lessons from this and end up with a stronger story, whatever happens.

I hope this is encouraging to others, too. I'm still unagented, but I'm being treated very well so far. There is hope for us rejects!

Word, that's fantastic. The editor wants to take it to acquisitions? Heck, in this game, that's cause enough to celebrate!!! May it lead to an offer.

Thanks, Tri and Snappy!

So far it is a very positive experience.

About one week from query to full request, and four weeks from full request to an e-mail expressing interest and asking if I was open to revision. One more week, and I had my editorial letter.

Whatever happens, that's encouraging.

And my former agent—a very nice guy—wouldn't shop this manuscript.

Believe in your work, pitizens.

Wow, Wordwrestler, that's great! Fingers crossed. Rep me who? I've had a few requests from editors too and I've found them really nice and helpful. No offers though, except from small press.

Thanks, Kellion! No offer for me yet, either, but definitely some interest.

This advice is so VERY important and relevant. I would like to direct AW readers to a blog post I wrote on this subject, and it's pertinent to those who feel they've lost the will to continue, or that their book is a hopeless failure.

I really did have a book launch.

Now I'm supposed to share my experience in what the library's PR lady is calling:

So you want to be a writer: How to get published in your lifetime

Sheesh. No pressure or anything.

I'm climbing out of lurkdom myself to sing my congratulations to Word and Vandal.

V, loved the article and the line, "a little hobby that pays well under minimum wage." The class will be great. Great title. Might add points like "start young" and "live a long, long time".

I have a question for you knowledgeable Pitizens. The editor I mentioned earlier is taking my book to acquisitions next week, and she wants a bio from me.

So . . .

Third person or first?
