The Impossible. Now I'd like to read the book.

'In the Loop'. Absolutely hilarious. "You say nothing. Stay detached, or else that's what I'll do to your retinas".

A Good Day to Die Hard.
Not bad overall; some parts had some very cheesy one-liners.

I saw Bronson (2008) the other day. Amazing movie, though quite disturbing. And very artistic, which isn't what you'd expect with a prison movie. Tom Hardy is an amazing actor though, of that I'm convinced by now.

The Expendables

Fun, colorful with explosions and gunfights and fight fights. I like me some movies with those things. And filled with many actors I just love to pieces.

Plot was pretty basic. No twists and turns. Just straight out gun-and-fight porn. The romance (what little there was of it) actually served a purpose without getting all up in the way of anything or anyone.

Dialogue vacillated from pedestrian to painful. Humor was forced in a lot of cases. It was trying too hard to be...something. I don't know. It disappointed me.

Still, overall, a fun movie with the fights and explosions and guns and car chases.

I think my expectations were too high. That said, it was pretty riveting. Like, train wreck riveting. :D

Took my 10-year-old son to see "The Croods" Saturday morning.

It was cute, and he enjoyed it.

I thought all the best parts were in the trailer.

Beautiful Creatures

Kept my attention. I like that they didn't go glamorous with the characters, just natural. Loved Jeremy Irons. As always, I'll read the book.

DDLewis was amazing. Sally Field gets major props too.

Hubby (a history buff) and I lurved it. Didn't think it was too long either. ;)

The Day the Earth Caught Fire. British film from the 60s about unchecked nuke testing, "tampering in God's domain," police states, and drunken, angsty newspaper reporters. Oh yes, there's a plot too! The US and the USSR tested huge nukes at the same time and threw the earth out of orbit toward the sun. We're all doomed! And thirsty. And need deodorant.

Actually, it's not a bad movie, if you can handle the preachiness. Excellent direction and a fascinating unexpected nostalgia piece about how newspapers were run in the old days.

Star Trek: Into Darkness. I rather enjoyed it, but the action scenes went on for waaaay too long. Also I had to stop my mom from spoiling half the plot twists for me, since she's seen Wrath of Khan and I haven't. (I know, I know. She gives me a hard time for that too. One day!) I love Zachary Quinto as Spock. Still. Some more.

Watched Shaolin last night. I swear every time I watch that movie I cry. Very good film, excellent action and acting. It really is a great tragedy!!

Notes on a Scandal, apparently based on a book. The story was compelling, even though none of the main characters were --to me-- sympathetic. It starred Cate Blanchett and Judi Densch, and it was one of the few films where I noticed the acting as helping improve the experience.
