Apparently they found one of the two ships, either Erebus or Terror. Still trying to determine which it was. Years ago they found the frozen graves in the permafrost, revealing some rather grisly discoveries. Now they have one of the boats.

There was some concern that the oral history told by the Inuit may have become exaggerated through the generations but this story has been verified and one of the ships was on the south side of an island off of King William Island.

Several prime ministers have made it a mission to find the Franklin Expedition. Harper followed the tradition and there will be more prime ministers to follow until the second boat is found.

That's very interesting - especially the part about Inuit oral history being accurate.

I hope they find the second ship.

The darker and untold story of Franklin.

Morris Neyelle of Deline, N.W.T., says the Franklin expedition should not be glorified. He’d like to see more attention paid to Franklin's time living in the north.

Originally a gathering place for Dene on the western shore of Great Bear Lake, Franklin used the Hudson Bay trading post at Deline as a staging area for his second Arctic expedition in 1825.

Neyelle says the time Sir John Franklin and his men spent in the community was a dark period of its history. He says he heard from an elder that Franklin's men abducted women and people feared for their lives.

"People need to know the actual story, what really did happen,” he says. “Not just exploring, but the killings that happened when he was here.”
