Some time ago I thought I'd self-publish my out-of-print novel, for which the rights have reverted to me from HarperCollins.

After a while, after realising the work necessary to reformat the ms they had sent on a disk, which was a series of page images, I let the whole thing slip. I just couldn't be bothered/was reluctant to get into the tech work necessary.

I recently decided to look for an e-publisher, and started looking around.
On AW I found recommendations for Write Words Inc; I wrote them and they are very interested, once I get the ms properly formatted. Their contract can be viewed on the website. They offer 40% royalties. I'm OK with that.

This is the only e-publisher I found that I like. My genre is General Fiction/Women's fiction.

Any other suggestions? Just to give me a choice? Perhaps an e-publisher that specialises in out-of-print books? The novel is 530 pages long so I'm not looking for a print edition. Thanks!

Having skimmed through their website, Aruna, my bet is that they won't do anything for you that you won't be able to do for yourself, and they'll take the lion's share of income from the book too.

You'd still have to provide them with a typescript of the book, so I'm not sure how you'd benefit from using them, either.

Thanks, Old Hack, and what you say makes very good sense. But if you only know how much I hate the idea of going it alone, being a (self) publisher (again)!
I will consider it and maybe I can conjure up the energy to do so... but I would prefer just to hand everything over to someone else and tell them, you do it all.
Maybe old age catching up with me....

Update: I found a solution!

I am going to use my agency's e-book services. Yesterday I mailed my agent about this and he will refer me to them so we can go ahead, once my ms is revised. They charge their normal 15% commission, so I get a bigger piece of the cake than if I were to look for an e-publisher.

By utilizing Trident's e-book operations, authors are empowered and able to make a greater profit than by using an outside service that costs, in many cases, more than double Trident's commission. Trident's e-book operations add significant value, allowing the author to devote more time to writing than the mechanics of e-book processes and taking advantage of the latest marketing techniques that may be suited to a particular book. As the e-book business evolves, the professional capabilities and knowledge of the Trident e-book team will have a substantial and positive impact on its authors' careers. The department is now open to direct submissions from authors who want to do e-book original self-publishing with a book agency's assistance.

"The scope of services available is so wide and deep that it is not practical to list them here," says Nicole Robson, co-director. "A brief summary includes formatting for uploading, copyediting, cover design, and marketing."

This is exactly what I need.
