Brooklyn represent!
Came across these guys while browsing events for the Brooklyn Book Festival. Literary fiction and poetry seem to be their thing.

Submissions info page doesn't encourage me to send anything even if I wrote lit fic or poetry. Vague and just seems to be trying too hard to be different or quirky or whatever.

Wow. They'll publish your work, sell it for actual money, but apparently don't pay anyone. At least they aren't taking any rights.

Agree with op that it comes across as pretentious and forcibly quirky.

Authors retain all rights. Contractual terms apply for printed books. For Everyday Genius, Chapbook Genius, and isReads, there is no financial payment.

I'm confused.

How is it possible for them to publish a book but not use any of the author's rights?

Could they mean they want one time rights and pay no advances?

It's like they're spending a lot of time trying to be hip and edgy and very little on the business end of things.

Yeah, you summed it up. It also sounds to me like they've been speaking to some writers who're terrified of people stealing their copyrighted work, and they've tried to reassure those neurotic types... without any actual knowledge of the legalities and correct terms.
