Two cool things at one time:

1) Edmonton, Saskatchewan has a 'street piano' project, where pianos are placed in public spaces for people to play as they will.

Anyone seen this at work? Are they under some sort of shelter, or what?

But also:

2) A seemingly homeless man uses one to make music and is recorded and YouTubed:

It's currently at over 3 million views.

No real point to the post. Just a reminder that the world can be beautiful.

Makes me wonder what the backstory of that piano player is.

I actually wonder that a lot about the homeless people I see on the streets of San Francisco. Some of them whom I see all the time I've talked to at length, and the various paths they have traveled to arrive at where they are today are mind blowing.

A lot of it is a result of drug use and/or alcoholism – but some of the drug use and alcoholism came after they were homeless, not before. And sometimes, their stories give me a strong sense of "There but for the grace of God go I."

Born on the reserve, put into foster care with his brothers at age five. Moved into a foster care home with a piano at age 8 and played from there on. Drug and alcohol abuse came later.
