I'm helping a friend pull together a list of comp titles for querying. It's a 8500 word chapter book. I think I've nailed a description for the voice—Lemony Snicket for the chapter-book set—but I can't seem to locate any similar titles in the chapter book range. Well, that's not totally true—there are several UK chapter book series that match the style (Mr. Gum and Horrid Henry), but since he's querying US agents, I'm not sure how only referencing UK series would go over. Anything similar on this side of the pond?

Edited to add: I'd actually say the voice is Lemony Snicket (funny, involved narrator) meets Roald Dahl (quirky, kid outwits adult witch).

I think the two UK series you mention are popular enough to work. Horrid Henry is in my library next to Horrible Harry. Harry is not as horrible as Henry.

Thank you, Debbie V! It's encouraging to hear that both series may be more popular outside the UK than I originally thought.
