I am just completing a great short piece which does not fall into an easy category to define. Lengthwise, it will be in the 4,500 word category. It's not really a short story . . . but more of a rant describing a funny situation that happened to me while on a flight from Atlanta to New York. Kind an Irma Bombeck rant about the problems of modern life and a very funny experience that happened to me. My question is: What category would you put this in? What would you call it? And more importantly do you have any recommendations for magazines that would be interested in this kind of piece? Thanks.

I'd call it creative nonfiction: humour. Try Duotrope for markets?

I agree with Unimportant - humor. Check out anarmyofermas.com. I'm not sure if this is a paying market, but the ladies there are great and may be able to give you more market ideas. Good luck! :)

I don't know if in-flight magazines are working with freelancers these days, but that might be a possible market since your piece is related to air travel.
