Hello! I'm new to the forum and sort of new to writing, but old to the world. So I hope there's room for a few old fogies around here.
I wrote my first book when I was 4 or 5. It was "The Ten Little Indians" and, as I couldn't read yet, didn't have any words. (No the pictures weren't very original either, but it did have an awesome red ribbon holding it all together and I was thrilled.)
Somehow the pictures only thing convinced me that I'd be better off in the art world than the literature one. So I work as a production artist - which is somewhere between a graphic designer and a troubleshooter for people who think they can design their own stuff in publisher and save some money.
As there's no way I'm going to come home and let photoshop and illustrator frustrate me some more, I decided I might as well write down the stories I'm always telling myself. And I made wonderful little goals like "finish something". So I finished a story and submitted it to a contest. I'm expecting the results in the next couple of days and am so nervous I'm chewing not just the nails, but the fingers and can't concentrate on anything else. So I'm here distracting myself.
Otherwise, I'm working on a novel. I think I write speculative fiction (I think!). Well, the story is a modernized (or something) fairytale, and there's an element of that kind of thing in most of what I do. But the novel I'm working on is sort of an apocalyptic more-roaring20sthanVictorianbut grunge-steampunk mystery/thriller. Speculative fiction is the best I can do. Maybe some of the folk and discussions here will help me clarify
Nice to meetcha.
