Tennessee cops? I've never seen it but I can imagine they found some cops in some very rural areas.

I was also reading about Tennessee on the BBC this morning. Something about a bill that's being brought forward by two Senators aimed at removing the word 'lunatic' from US laws. Apparently, Tennessee has already done something similar to the state legislative stuff.

The programme was First 48 - a sort of drive-along reality show. They were Memphis detectives. One detective was named Caroline - she had lo-ong fingernails painted with very sparkly polish.

I couldn't help wondering what that would do for her 'street cred'.

:D

I haven't heard of that one.

Every year there is at least one or two state laws proposed that are more than a bit odd.

The state legislature is composed of everyone from top lawyers to possibly a guy who runs a fruit stand.

They do have a very nice park however.

I'm about to get a mention on television.

Wow. I'm a star.

Rob, what's the bet that I call AC up on the telephone and he'll have that southern drawl going?

Hmmm?

Actually, I've gone some free international calling time. I was thinking of calling Nighty.

I do have a Southern accent, but not so much of a drawl.

There are actually different accents within the state.

I've heard that scholars from England came to East Tennessee many years ago because in some of the more remote locations the accent of the people there is closer to English used 200 or 300 years ago. Some areas were very remote and isolated (one of the reasons why part of the Manhattan Project was located there) and the language hadn't changed that much. Things have changed somewhat since then.

I did my undergraduate degree in linguistics and I remember hearing about that too. Some place called Okrakoke, or something like that, where the people were supposed to use a dialect that was really similar to Shakespearian english. And I think there was something like that going on in the Ozark mountains too.

There was a big meth problem in Tennessee a few years ago because there are a lot of remote areas where people mind their own business. Perfect for a meth lab (or a moonshine still). They cracked down and I don't think it's as bad now.

Is that why you're on TV? 'Cos you're still running one in your basement?

I don't think I'd want to run a meth lab with a cat running around knocking over stuff.

Not that I'd want to run a meth lab anyway. Just for the record.

Of course I remember! Tres cool! Have you resized the text to fit the cover, though? 'Cos that's going to make it pretty hard to read.

I'm not even sure that it is a bookcover. I think it might be one of those microdot things that spies used to transfer secrets during the cold war.

It is, isn't it, nf?

Espionage fail!
