And that insight comes from none other than a Wall Street hooker.

I'm single and don't know if I could ever get married after sleeping with so many married men — more than I can remember. It doesn't exactly give me faith in marriage.

-SNIP-

The first time or two, I looked at their wedding rings the whole time and they always noticed and then got nervous, as if my guilt was making them feel guilty. So I decided not to look at their hands. They want to talk a lot more than you think. They want to vent about their kids' private schools, their bosses, their bonus talks, their friend beating them at squash. I didn't even know what the hell squash was at the time. Talking, talking, talking, as if their lives were harder than mine and I wasn't the one there to have sex with them for money. I started feeling resentful of them.

I got into it when I first moved to New York and desperately needed money to survive. Sam, who ran the first escort service I was with, told me when we met that some guys pay $2,000 an hour. I thought he was exaggerating, but I decided to try it. My stomach churned so much before I got picked up the first night that I was constantly going to the bathroom.

-SNIP-

But after a few months it became exhausting. They have big egos and are big babies. If I made any sign that they weren't the best lover, or that their dick wasn't the biggest dick I'd ever seen, they started asking all these questions and putting me down like: "Oh, well you've just seen more cock than a normal, nice girl would."

No, actually, you're really small and you're bad in bed.

One guy, who said he was a bigwig at a global investment bank, came in his pants when I started undoing his belt. It was so awkward. He had been talking up how good he was in bed in the cab ride to the hotel from dinner, and when that happened, he freaked out. "That never happens! You must have done something to me," he said. Like it's never their fault.

I might call this "A little insight into the men who patronize hookers." (no offense intended to any men on this board who use prostitutes)

I suspect that whether she worked on Wall Street or Bourbon Street or Beale Street many of her stories would be the same.

I really dislike the word "hooker" unless she's described herself as such. It's generally considered pejorative by sex workers. It's definitely great to not offend men who use prostitutes but there are two people in the equation ;)

It's sort of a running thing on Gawker and each time they post one story, people send in more. Hilarious at the very least.

Thank goodness I'm only an accountant. We're only known for being boring. . .

I don't know why, but I find this amusing. Though I've never understood paying for sex, anyway...

I've seen way too many odd (charitable word, really) transactions up and down Central in ABQ.

Comments are awful. I actually have to give a bit of respect for this woman. Sounds like a horrible job, dealing with douchebags like that on a daily basis. I couldn't do it, that's for sure.

Trying to get it for free is very hit-and-miss...

:(

Not at UNM.

You'd be surprised. God knows I continue to be amazed by my girl friends and their picks for fuckbuddies. And these are very attractive girls. After a certain point, you think that surprise would cease, but nope. Their standards just keep going down and down. And I don't exactly have skyhigh standards myself.

ETA: Which isn't to say I think girls are "easy." I think girls are just as "easy" (god, I hate that word) as guys. That's why I've never understood why anyone would need to pay for sex when there are so many people willing to have sex out there for "free".

And don't get me wrong, I don't think all prostitution should be illegal. But there's a certain attitude behind it—that you're a "big man" for buying a prostitute, or that you own the woman and therefor, should be able to humiliate her, or that it's not cheating on your wife to sleep with a prostitute, that I can't say I'm behind it, either.

I think I can understand and appreciate the sexual surrogate business, that actually respects the woman (or man), much, much more. So much safer and less skeevy, IMO.

Send me their numbers next time I'm in Albuquerque and maybe I'll learn to agree with you.

At the level of interaction in the linked article, it's not really the sex that is being paid for. It's the going away afterward, no strings attached.

For someone with lots of money and very little time, that can be worth a lot.

Some jobs can be adequately handled by volunteer help, but if you have money and really want it done right, you hire a pro, right?

Sex workers should unionize and lobby for legislation that makes giving it away free illegal. Damned scabs have almost killed what used to be a vibrant, growing industry. ;)

Well damn, I thought I thought I did a good CYA in my first post. Sorry 'bout that. To be fair, I took hooker from the first line in the OP.

There are a few different reasons why someone would patronize a prostitute. The first and most obvious is that they can't get anyone to have sex with them. I know it's hard to believe but there are some people out there who really don't even know how to talk to another person, let alone have sex with them. This does not apply to most of this woman's clients, probably.

The second is that they want something they can't get from the women they date. I think you know what some of those things might be.

The third is that they aren't actually paying for sex. They are paying for sex to be placed into context of a business transaction. They aren't paying the women to sleep with them. They're paying them to shut up and leave afterward. This is why the woman said she was sometimes jealous of clients' wives, because she knows the wives, the ones they are not paying, are the ones they really care for.
