The Thing, the new one featuring more Norwegians than have ever appeared in a non-Norwegian movie before.

It was surprisingly pretty good! Nowhere near Carpenter's 80s classic, but faithful to the mythology, and it ties in quite nicely as a prequel. And the CGI take on the over-the-top visceral body horror that made the 80s movie so wonderful is quite well done.

Now I'm itching to play some Dead Space...

Ditto, pretty much. It wasn't blazingly original, obviously, but there were quite a few tense scenes.

I bet it was interesting trying to figure out how to write a story around the scenes from the Norwegian camp in the 1982 version. I thought they did a pretty credible job. Even if you (generic you) don't rush right out and see it in theaters it's probably worth a look on video.

Scream 4: Loved it. Completely Meta.

- pretty generic action flick. it was a mixture of Man on Fire with Mission Impossible, but much, much lesser quality than both. told a story that you didn't really care much for, cliche relationship stuff, and the action scenes didn't do a whole lot that was creative or very interesting. overall, meh. not worth the time.

I watched Bonnie and Clyde for the first time yesterday. Great movie. I found Faye Dunaway's performance to be the most compelling part of the film - she made Bonnie a FAR more interesting character than Clyde. The film editing was a little choppy, though.

In its time, Bonnie and Clyde was considered to be one of the most violent movies ever made. Having watched it, I could understand the historical reasons for this - but nowadays it's nothing in comparison to a typical slasher film.

Melancholia - Gripping, artful, non-doom porn film about two adult sisters and a rogue planet approaching the Earth. Great cast. I haven't seen Kirsten Dunst act so well since...Interview with a Vampire.

The Art of Getting By

- eh. couldn't really get into this movie. seemed to have an epic amount of self-pitying happening, and the main character wasn't that likable. add in a really thin plot, and even the solid performances from everyone couldn't save it. mediocre overall.

Fantastic movie. The cinematography was absolutely stunning. Bradley Cooper surprised the hell out of me with his acting chops, too. And you just can't go wrong with Robert De Niro! :)

Better than the reviews would have you believe, but still a flawed movie. I am a sucker for Roman Empire period pieces, but this movie was a little too cute for my taste.

Bridesmaids. I laughed, I cried, it became a part of me. Comic comfort food. Love Melissa McCarthy.

Can any of you diehards tell me, should I bother with Paranormal Activity 3?

Real Steel - Straightforward merging of underdog story/boy-and-his-dog tale/absentee father lecture. Not nearly as overdone as you would think, despite some glaringly bad dialogue (mostly exposition). Reminds me of how I felt about How to Train Your Dragon, another film that presented oft-used tropes quite well.

Plus some great effects from the folks at Digital Domain.

Final Destination & Final Destination 3 (the best and better ones of the franchise)

Paranormal Activity: 3....could have been better, but it's still good fun. Two groups of people literally would not shut up for any amount of time during this film. I finally raised my voice and said "You know. There's a special Hell for people that talk during the theater." The effect? Some random dude shouting. "Fuck yeah! Firefly!" I guess that's a win...sort of.

Just saw Yes Man. So cute. I'm not a huge Jim Carey fan, but I actually really liked him in this! Plus i"m just a sucker for Zooey D.

Is anyone else excited about the Muppet movie coming out? I can't talk about it IRL, because I get sideways looks. But I'm fired up.
