I've been thinking of getting Delawares. They are beautiful and known to be calm, quiet and great egg producers.
So kind of like when my landscaper told me that thyme as ground cover was great. OH man was I sick of it and it runs amok!
Be careful where you plant them.I got a wonderful surprise yesterday. A neighbor of mine had finished their garden and had extra plants. Guess who got them? Me! I got 4 pumpkin plants, a banana squash, a crookneck, and three cantalopes. I have more green in my garden!!
Be careful where you plant them.
Squashes are notoriously promiscuous and will cross-pollinate with just about anyone.
Sluts.
More! Holy crap lady you're going to have the most amazing harvest ever!I got a wonderful surprise yesterday. A neighbor of mine had finished their garden and had extra plants. Guess who got them? Me, I have seeds in my indoor window boxes now: oregano, basil, chives, arugula, and I'm trying beets for the greens.
I never eat beet roots, only the greens which is why I think I might be able to get away with growing them in boxes that are only 6 inches deep.LOVE beets! I am using a CSA this summer, but plan to plant them next summer. Try them with goat cheese and pistachios. Sooo good!

Rose, you're going to have to invite us over for the harvest
Jenn- that sounds awesome.
And omg, beet greens with cheese? I am so trying that. I'm harvesting half my beets next week (for greens only. The rest stay for the whole plant)
Back to chickens, the Dorking is a neat breed. You'd really want to keep it away from predators due to its rarity though.
Woohoo! That's it, you guys have inspired me. I'm going to IFA today and getting some plants. I think I'll get one tomato, a packet of pole green beans, a zucchini plant and that will probably take up all the space I have. I've missed my garden.

If you live close by you are certainly invited. I haven't tried beet greens either, I'll have to this year provided my beets grow okay.
If y'all get a chance, check out the garden article in Wired this month. Very cool and very interesting. Very.
LOL@ pollen.
I don't live close unfortunately, and in a few days I'll be even further
O rly? What's it about?
Yam plants? Oh my gosh, why have I never thought of that? I want yams.two yam plants
Want.That sounds awesome, Turkey.
And wow it got quiet in here.
I was going to make a simple avocado on fresh sunflower seed open face sammich, but then I went out to the garden to get fresh basil tips, and then I thought goat cheese would really go with it, and I added a little lemon juice too, and I had one helluva sandwich in the end
