Is anybody else bothered by this?

That's a thylacine, mate. Also known as the tasmanian tiger. It was (they're extinct, but surrounded by sasquatch style stories) once australia's only top tier predator, until dingoes were introduced. They were/are marsupials by the way, so add the pouch to the mouth.

Edit: oh, and zebu from any book written during experimentation with hard hallucinogenic drugs.
