Hello all, just a quick thing to introduce myself to anyone that might care to read this.

I come from Kent in England and about seven months ago finished a university degree in Writing Contemporary Fiction which I studied in Southampton, spending three years *hopefully* improving the way I write with views towards getting published eventually. However, almost the entire time I was at uni I was struck with writer's block and have barely been able to get anything out that wasn't an assignment. I'm slowly trying to get back into it now, but I find it really hard to get motivated.

As I said, I'd like to get published one day, but until that happens I'd like to look into getting a job in publishing. Once I have some money together I hope to do a masters degree and then, who knows. A job, hopefully.

I stumbled across this forum while researching the answer to a question that cropped up while I was writing so I thought I'd take a poke around and it seems interesting. I look forward to getting to know people a bit better and having a look at anything and everything I can get my hands on.

Greetings and welcome to the watercooler :welcome:

Take a wander around the various forums, there's lots to see and lots to learn, and even some fun threads too. Come along and pop on over to the brand new Newbie Pub (at the top of the Newbie forum) and say hi, there's plenty of friendly faces that you can chat with and lots of banter. There's also the Question of the Day threads at the top of the Newbie forum where you can answer random questions.

Don't forget to read the newbie guide, and if you want to know what all the buttons mean check out this thread.

Hi, and welcome to the cooler. :welcome:

Sometimes knowledge can be a dangerous thing. (Not that I'd know a lot about that. :D)

This is my theory: When you're writing 'off the cuff' the words flow from your pen, from your subconscious. But when you stop to think of all the 'rules' you should be following, the different POV's, tenses, etc, then it can restrict you, your mind goes blank and so does your page.

Maybe joining this forum is just what you need to get motivated again.;)

Welcome to AW. Hope you enjoy your stay with us.
How do you like your popcorn?

If you go to the bottom of the page to the ‘forum jump’ you can scroll down and find all the areas of this place. Most of the SYW areas require the password of ….vista. A word to the wise, (50 posts), it would be a good idea to participate first in helping others before you think about posting your own work. After you have been around here for awhile, then post something of your own for help. Good luck.

Kent's not too far down the road from me... Good to meet you, hun. :)

Academic writing tends to kill the creative side, even though you know it employs a lot of creative writing too.

You'll find something here to get the juices going. ;)
