For some reason, the songs these bands sing stimulates my mind.^^

Queen, Black Sabbath, Metallica, Dream Theatre, Dragonforce...>.>;

Some people consider bands like Dragonforce loud, but personally, their relaxing to my ears. I can practically fall asleep while listening to them.=)

Also, the lyrics of their songs, despite being a Power/Speed Metal band, their songs are just, poetic, in an epic sense. Perfect for fantasy writers I say.^^

Often I work in silence, but when I listen to music while writing, it's usually classical or new age. Every now and again I'll play something loud and rythmic, house or industrial. Juno Reactor is great.

I've found the Meditation channel on Lucky7 Radio, which plays through Windows Media Player, to be particularly useful.

It allows me to tune out the world and the rest of my brain to focus on the task at hand. It's even been useful at work.

For me, one of the following usually does the trick:

Eminem
Keane
Queen
Pet Shop Boys

Or if I'm in the right mood -

Soundtrack to Southpark (the movie) or Rocky Horror
