Out here, too.

I'm really looking forward to seeing what the final version looks like.

Sorry for all the R's everyone. :Hug2: I'm sure you'll find homes for your stories, tho.

Kansas! Again.
My eyeballs haven't bounced back, yet. I miss them, despite our differences. Also, they hid the sugar before they left.

So, any idea when the artists might hear for certain, then?

(No rush on the answer be it yes, or we have no idea, since I know you're swamped :) )

Monday-ish, or shortly there-after, depending on Pthom's schedule.
My schedule depends (at this point) entirely on the table of contents. Then, the process is to decide which stories get internal illustrations and assign those to artists. There will be some semi-secret process to determine the cover image. (I say semi-secret because I'm not entirely sure what will be involved.)

Then while artists do art, I will do design and the typesetter will set type and we'll go to town.

(Whether my story gets in the thing is irrelevant. So far, nothing in my inbox.)

Well, I got my rejection notice.

I'm not that bummed by it: Mac had some uplifting comments, both now and in early August when I'd submitted the story. It's a good story, and it may have just not fit the developing collection. So in two weeks it's off to the Q1 2012 Writers of the Future, where I will hear nothing about it until next May or so. (Unless one of our pro judges has a burning need to champion it, wink wink nudge nudge?)

But between some great personalized rejections on this story and two others, the novel's contest honorable mentions and finalist wins, and two personalized rejections from top agents, I actually feel like I'm closer than I've been in years. It's not my writing at fault anymore, it's me finding the right market.

It was a hoot to be part of this, and I'd do it again in a moment. My thanks and gratitude to Mac and everyone else who is working so hard on it!

Got my rejection tonight as well. I'm not surprised; the story is on the long side and isn't as "out there" as some spec fic. But at least the form email was nice, much less robotic than the ones editors tend to issue.

Good luck to everyone else, and many thanks to the editors for putting in the time pro bono.

Nothing here either. This is getting exciting! On the one hand, I feel sad every time someone says they've been rejected, but on the other, that's one less person between me and the TOC. Oh, the conflict!

Sorry to everyone that got Rs last night. But damn, at this point, even if the story hasn't made the final cut you can be confident you've got a bloody fine piece of writing on your hands. I've already got a few interesting paying markets bookmarked for if my story doesn't make it through.

Fingers crossed for the rest of us!

Got my rejection too. The old 'didn't quite fit' which is fair enough. I now need to make the changes that the beta reader I acquired suggested for it a while back and find somewhere for it to go.

That or accept the inevitable... given that it was a story spun off from a novel I am sort of half writing I may just insert it into the novel...

Mac: Thanks a lot for everything. You are doing a great job (I shall be saying as much on my blog later when I get time...). I shall certainly be asking for the 'comments' option if it is still being offered, though I understand you have very little time to spare.

Cheering you all on!
I didn't get a rejection, but I did get an e-mail last night with writing news!!!

Let me tell you what a rollercoaster that little red circle-1 over my iPod e-mail icon gave me. First there was... "Oh, I've been rejected. *sigh*" Then I opened it and saw that another long-awaited piece of news was in there and it was good.

I'm still hoping not to get cut, but the timing of this has made it so that if I do, I still will be having a pretty good day :D

Well, I've got nothing so far... *stares at empty inbox*

Commiserations to those who got their Rs. Hopefully you'll find other homes for your stories :)

Rejections are part of the game; they just mean you're in there trying. I've garnered -- just a sec -- 78 rejections. And most of the stories I've had accepted had previously been rejected, sometimes multiple times.

Revision can do wonders. Sometimes if you leave a story for a while and come back to it, you can see how to make it better.

:Hug2: to everyone who got an 'R' last night. I do not envy Mac her job in this.

Nothing so far in my inbox... *gulp* Something tells me my story is one of those the panel was diametrically opposed on.

Hi, guys,

I also got a rejection from Mac on my sub. However, the feedback was so beautifully-worded and encouraging that it took a lot of the sting out of the rejection.

Best wishes to those of you still in the running.

To Mac, Pthom and the others involved in putting this effort together -- thanks very much! It has been a terrific experience. I'm looking forward to seeing the end result.

I agree with McFrog. My eyes have been crossed for a while now - and I tossed and turned in my sleep all night.

So sorry for those who got 'Rs', :Hug2: I've really enjoyed all the chatter in here, and everytime I see a name I recognize say they got an 'R', my heart sinks. Hope you guys find all kinds of places to send those works. :Hug2: - again.

Got my (very nice) rejection last night too. My story was a longer piece, so in a way I'm glad the cut could free up more space of opportunity for everyone else. Good luck to everyone still waiting!

*hugs* and shots of scotch to everyone who gor Rs. I've told this story other places on AW, but I garnered 185 Rs before an agent offered, and half-a-dozen edotor passes before a book deal.

Rs mean you've got the balls to put your work out there.

Never give up. Never surrender.

Well I'm at like 120 rejections to novels from agents, so that must mean I am getting close ;)
