Website Book Excerpt Question

What is a good lenght for a book excerpt on a website? And do the agents like it or not if a short excerpt is out on the official website of our WIP before it's being published?

Hi Freelancer!

1) It depends what the publisher wants. A good length is about 1000 words.

2) In my opinion it's not a good idea to post an unedited excerpt online. It's not published yet, and your final book might go through multiple edits which could change the excerpt entirely.

Thank you for your answer. I haven't uploaded to the public section of my homepage because of the very same reasons what you mentioned. But I created the website template for this and for a glossary as I had a little spare time and I wanted to know the proper length for the excerpt. So when the time comes, the only thing what I have to do is to press the upload button. I always love to work ahead.
