Throughout my drinking history I've mostly stuck to vodka and beer. I've been thinking of broadening my blurry horizons a bit. Is there any type of alcohol you would recommend for kicking back at home after a stressful work week? I'm interested in a mellow kind of buzz.

A good Speyside Malt when I'm feeling flush. When I'm less so I have to say I love a specialist ale. (it depends what you mean by beer if that is a change)

Wow, it sure doesn't take long to get a bunch of replies on a booze-related topic. :)

I second the honey but with whisky ;) Honey Jack Daniels is actually not bad but I prefer whisky to whiskey.

Tastes vary, which is why there are so many different kinds of booze. Honey Jack is the second worst thing I ever tasted (first was Southern Comfort). And I'm a Jack drinker.

Everyone has a southern comfort story and most end: 'and now I can't even smell it without being sick.'

I like a glass of red wine to help relax of an evening. A blonde bitter too. Single malty whiskey/whisky in winter. Rum in summer with crushed ice and fruit juice.

Can't have Indian foot without a gin and tonic. There are laws on this.

Hennessy (cognac) is a good chill drink.

Jack Daniels (no honey or any of that stuff though)

Because booze.

I'm partial to Scotch and lean toward Famous Grouse. However, I do the unthinkable and mix it with a bit of diet ginger ale and a few glugs of club soda.

I can drink it neat or over the rocks, but it would be gone too fast.

Gin & tonic is nice on a hot summer day, but it's even nicer with a slice of cucumber in it.

It's a blend so mixing it is fine. A single malt over 10 years is unthinkable. Scotch is whisky without the "e" and everywhere else with. It's technically like champagne can only come from champagne (and I am not heavy drinker just the product of many school trips to distilleries where we were served orange juice)

That's probably why I like the honey in Jack Daniels - it disguises the differences. I keep it mostly for sticking in chilli in which honey Jack Daniels is by far the best.

There are some excellent sipping chardonnays out there that go very well with Star Trek reruns. I've been in a sweet-tooth mood myself, lately, and Kahlua on the rocks is my go-to.

Nope on the Southern Comfort. That would the rum! Bleghhh.

My favorites include pretty much all of the liqueurs (not Creme de Menthe). Framboise is my absolute favorite, but Baileys always rocks. My favorite coffee liqueur is from Costa Rica, but others aren't bad, either. Those are all great cold when it's warm.

Tied for favorite are all the brandy, cognac, calvados and B&B types of drinks. They pack a bigger punch taste-wise and aren't generally as sweet, but they are still incredibly tasty. Some are great warm when it's cold.

Port always works for me, too. Or mead, yep :) Wine is great, but it doesn't keep, so I like to have something else for just a little nip or two.

I've recently discovered gin and it's fabulous. Gin and a bubbly mineral water and some kind of green thing (mint, lime, cucumber, green apple).

Unoaked chardonnay is my go to.

My dad (and a coworker I once had) liked T&B&B: tea with B&B liqueur.
