One other thing, I want to include a few sample stories but it strikes me as a bit full of myself to make them all ones I've written. Wondering if I should contact a few writers whose published flash stories I love and offer them a few bucks to let me include their stories.

Also wondering if this all makes good sense or if I'm just being lazy...

I think that sounds like an awesome idea.

Guess I should post it here, too. Here's the link to my (tentative) cover:

I think I only have about 10,000 words to go now. It seems whenever I have a really good day or two, I spend the next day procrastinating. Oh well, time to make coffee and see what I can get done tonight at least.

Thanks, Larry. I'm finding that writing a nonfiction book is much different from fiction. To me, it's easier but maybe not as much fun!

Oops. I may be almost finished with the first draft and it's too short. Then again, who says it should be longer. I guess when I'm done with what I have to say, that's the time to stop.

So, the cover is done and the barcode is bought.

I'm finishing this round of revisions.

Next, I print it out yet again and my partner will read it out loud to me, for one more round of revisions.

Then it goes to the formatting guy.

Which will be a nice way to end 2014. :)

Thanks, ajaye. Now it's revised again and printed out again. One more time through with my critter, then it goes off to the formatting guy. :)

Congratulation, Fruitbat! Good "how to" books can be very useful and interesting.
One quick thought, which you can feel free to ignore:
The keys on the cover are deep, whereas most keyboards nowadays have shallow keys. You might want to replace those images so your book doesn't look dated before it's even out.

Thanks, Wallfull. I don't know if I'll change it because I'm using the free CreateSpace template so I'm not sure there's a photo I like better. But I'll definitely look and thanks either way because I didn't even notice it. :)

25,000 words sound like a good length for this project. You can always write a part 2 about how to market these kinds of stories.

I love writing flash fiction. There are how to books out there, so I don't think it would be too nichey.

It's of those things where a writer like me would buy several how-to books in the same vein, so this is wine I would happily add to my arsenal.
