Now that's compassion for you.
The Obama administration isn't just cracking down on individuals and organizations that sell medical marijuana. It's now threatening to go after publishers and broadcasters that run ads for pot dispensaries in a state where medical marijuana is legal.

Federal prosecutors are preparing to target newspapers, radio stations and other media outlets that advertise medical marijuana dispensaries in California, another escalation in the Obama administration's newly invigorated war against the state's pot industry.

This month, U.S. attorneys representing four districts in California announced that the government would single out landlords and property owners who rent buildings or land where dispensaries sell or cultivators grow marijuana. Now, newspapers and other media outlets could be next.

I guess "no law... abridging the freedom of speech" is the new "shall not be infringed."

What was that about Obama being a raving radical lefty commie socialist activist?

Anyway, he doesn't have much of a choice. The law says what it says, and the executive branch must enforce it. I'd rather he didn't, but that's not an option.

If you want to see change, the target branch of government is actually the federal Congress (because the SCotUS sure isn't going to turn over the pertinent laws).

Doesn't the government control all kinds of facets about the display, advertising and sale of cigarettes? I know a lot of the really restrictive parts of that came out of a settlement, so I don't know how fully it compares.

I know that the advertising bans were already in effect, though. For a totally legal product. It's an interesting question. I don't know how I feel about it in any nice, consistent way (I can do case by case, but preferably law doesn't have to work that way). I know for sure I think it shouldn't be abused with overly eager legislation.

Why not, there's no Second amendment right for med marijuana-users:

http://www.nbclosangeles.com/news/local/No-Guns-for-Medical-Marijuana-Users--130864873.html

Rights = Something the government gives or withholds at its discretion.
You know, I was gonna do a whole thread about this, but I figured it would be three or four of us vs. the world, and that gets old. Of course anybody who does something FedGov disapproves of has no right to arm themselves. What were you thinking?

I figure my bumper stickers are the next disqualifiers. See ya in Gitmo! We'll throw one hell of a party.
